Austerity is the power, scope and relief given to mankind alone. When the human heart and emotions stand to embrace austerity, they rise to be an alliance of the heavens, ready to redress the earth’s tortures and ordeals. A sin loses its pinch, a virtue enhances its nobility, a hurdle poses as a timely help, when steeped in austerity and blessed by its rewards. Such is the spiritual undercurrent at work within the invisible depths of mankind, where Nature rules with Her unsullied splendour, refusing to give in to the visible earth’s corrupt designs and institutions. At every time, for any one austerity comes in as a relieving measure and rewarding treasure.

No wonder then it has reigned as an unfailing succour for men and women. To the wise, it acts as an advance help. To the ignorant as a late mender. But to one and all alike, when sought dearly. During chaaturmasya following Gurupoornima, when rains bring relief as well as leisure, our people naturally chose to remain austere.

Austerity is the sublime effect produced in your being, when the mind and intelligence are privileged to interact with the Soul, avoiding external association and reflection. In place of the world’s temporal thrusts, the Soul’s spiritual depths get infused into the mind’s content. Moral and spiritual treatises offer such material, which by contemplation brings a virtual retreat from the objects and a factual communion with the subject, at once.

Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
